Police in Austin have charged a man with manslaughter after they say another man was killed on Sixth Street early Sunday. 28-year-old Nathan Raynard Marshall is currently in custody at the Travis County Jail and is charged in connection with the death of 33-year-old Marques W. Johnson.
According to police, Johnson got into an argument with Marshall and another man, after which Johnson turned around and walked away and was followed by the two men. The other man threw an object at Johnson, which hit him. As Johnson stopped and turned to face them, Marshall punched him and he fell to the ground. Both men then ran away.
Police were flagged down at the scene at around 2:00 AM, and Johnson was unconscious when they arrived. He later died from his injuries at the Dell Seton Medical Center on Monday.
Marshall was then booked into the Travis County Jail on an unrelated charge of assault on a public servant, which was then upgraded to manslaughter. Bail was set at $100,000 for the manslaughter charge and $50,000 for the other charge.
Detectives are still currently searching for the other man who was involved in this incident and are asking the public to help provide them with information regarding either his identity or whereabouts. They ask that anyone with this information call Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477. If any tips lead to an arrest, tipsters could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
